An Introduction to Retro Furniture

One of the great creations made after the Second World War was the strong retro furniture. Dating back to 1950′s up to 1970′s, furniture companies have come up with a unique style and design for furniture sets that lasted up until this modern era. And since fashion and style evolve around old and new concepts, vintage ones are now revived if not integrated with the 21st century designs to create new innovations in the furniture industry. This gives consumers better choices for furnishings.

In many classy and elegant interior designing, retro furniture pieces are included as major home decoration because they actually set the mood or the theme of the entire house and they could fit in almost any color or home layout.

What is retro furniture? Aside from being manufactured in the mid-twentieth century, retro furniture pieces need to be at least thirty years old or older. Genuine retro articles are expensive and can only be found mostly in antique shops. But since the use of retro furniture has become a fad, tables, chairs and other furniture and accessories are now made to look like retro ones and are sold cheaper than the real vintage ones. Retro tables normally come in different shapes, designs and sizes and are made mostly of wood or metal.

In the 1950’s, retro furniture pieces were made using shining metals like chrome or nickel. Each piece is set to be distinct from one another by using different color for each furniture piece. Popular colours include fuchsia, orange, and lime green. All retro furniture pieces were manufactured with clean cut curves and lines that normally reflect the WWII period.

Retro style furniture pieces and vintage furniture can be found in local and online furniture stores; available in different price range. Each design and size costs differently. For example, a piece of retro furniture made in steel will probably cost around £200; and an oval-shaped table with deco legs may have a price arount £300. Other stores may sell their products cheaper as a marketing strategy, while popular ones may remain their prices.

Consumers are highly advised to consider window shopping to compare prices and read consumer reviews before buying retro furniture as a throwback to the past.
